There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is banned. Eight casinos are based in a generally small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect area, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and although visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to pass, there are methods around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.
The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat casino, features one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machine games and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the normal table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel complex that contains many luxuries on top of the gambling den, which houses ten thousand square feet of 130 slots and 88 gaming tables.
