There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are means around this, as is real of most borders.
The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling hall, features 150 slot machine games and 60 tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel compound that contains numerous conveniences aside from the gambling den, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
