There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the border from next door Thailand, in which casino gambling is against the law. Eight casinos are situated in a generally tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the common tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around vacation and hotel building that contains many conveniences on top of the gambling den, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and 88 table games.
